In Dave Grohl’s aptly named memoir “The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music” readers are given a glimpse into the life of a rock and roll musician. His stories cover everything from his own childhood to his experiences as a father to three girls while touring with a Grammy-award winning rock band. No matter when the stories he shares take place, they are always against a musical backdrop. It is clear after reading this book that Dave Grohl, former Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighter lead singer, is driven by the joy that music brings him. If you are looking for a rock and roll “tell all” - this isn’t it. Instead, Grohl focuses on his own personal experiences and how the musicians around him shaped his life both personally and as a musician. I left this book with a feeling that I just finished a really good conversation with someone who is at peace with the life he has built for himself.
