What a great book! I never would have thought to team up Dolly Parton and James Patterson, but it works!
The main character is a beautiful young girl named AnnieLee who has the voice of an angel and is running from a past that keeps catching up with her. She heads to Nashville, where she fully intends to become a star. Hitchhiking and living in a park until she can earn enough money for a room, she gets a job singing in a bar. She is “discovered” by Ethan who is employed by Ruthanna Ryder, one of the hottest (now retired) country singers in the business. Ruthanna decides to help her break into the industry. AnnieLee quickly discovers how hard the music business is and her past rears its ugly head just when she starts to experience the success she has always longed for. AnnieLee decides to run to the only place she knows where she can possibly fix things - the home that she left behind. Ethan goes after her only to discover that AnnieLee isn’t who she says she is. Can he forgive her?
As everyone knows, Dolly is a very glamorous country star and this definitely shines through in the story. Also included in the story are portions of songs from the next Dolly Parton album and the lyrics are included in the back of the book. If you are a Dolly Parton fan, you will not be disappointed!
