“The Unraveling of Julia,” by Lisa Scottoline, is a riveting story that centers on Julia Pritzker, a troubled young woman who has suffered devastating losses. Her losses might have turned out differently if she had read the fatal warning in her horoscope, or followed her “intuition.”

Julia met her husband in their freshman year at Notre Dame, where he was a sports fanatic who took art history courses on a lark. He was clever and fun, and they clicked instantly. The twosome became each other’s family and were blessedly happy until October 11^th, when a telling event took place.

Julia began reading her horoscope daily after that fateful day in October. As a result, Julia was afraid to go outside her apartment until she turned to her horoscope which one day read:

“Your luck is going to change today. You are stronger than you know. Trust yourself. It is only the beginning.”

Amazingly, Julia went to her mailbox and saw she’d received a letter from an attorney in Italy. Following a phone call to Italy to the attorney, Julia’s life took a dramatic turn. Julia was left with $3 million and a villa from Emilia Rossi, a woman Julia did not know. Julia’s life began a new journey that was both frightening and romantic, yet also enlightening and surprising.  Julia discovered the truth about herself and others as well.

To divulge more about the plot, would give away too much away in a book readers won’t want to put down. “The Unraveling of Julia,” will create empathy in readers, their emotions going through a variety of stages as the story unfolds. It’s easy to feel close to Julia as we get to know this beautiful, sympathetic character.
